GEORGE STUBBS - A CELEBRATION Exhibition, Tate Britain ***

We saw this exhibition on the same day as the Constable one and enjoyed it.

As well as the animal pictures there are some nice rural scenes which have got a fun naive quality about them. He was a self-taught painter and perhaps as a result doesn't seem all that interested in giving much depth to his pictures. All the main elements are put in a line in the foreground, frieze-style.
