CONSTABLE: THE GREAT LANDSCAPES Exhibition, Tate Britain ***

To be honest, I've always found Constable very boring, and after this exhibition I still do.

It's the same subject matter all the time, and always depicted with threatening grey clouds. You could have tried it with a brilliant blue sky at least once, John.

The interesting bit was seeing these huge and familiar landscapes with their same size, full-colour 'sketches' alongside. You could see how he made changes. A lot of the time I actually preferred the slightly cruder, more impressionistic sketches to the detailed finished pictures.
