BARBARA TRAPIDO Sex and Stravinsky ****

What a stupid cover if you're trying to attract a readership of both sexes - which this book should have.

Both Rachel and I have enjoyed Barbara Trapido's previous novels, especially "Juggling" and "Temples of Delight", and this one didn't disappoint either - although I probably enjoyed it more than Rachel.

It's set in London and South Africa. In London there's mime teacher Josh, his superwoman wife Caroline, daughter Zoe and Caroline's frightful mother. In South Africa are sweet Hattie, Josh's first love, who writes ballet books (which Zoe loves), alpha male husband Herman and nightmare daughter Cat - and mysterious Jack, or Jacques, or Giacomo. It's a mad story - a bit like the plot of a comic opera laden with amazing coincidences, with everything hurtling towards a resolution in the final act.

Good fun.
