JANE AUSTEN Persuasion

After reading 'The Slap' (see below) I felt soiled and in need of something more cleansing, and Miss Austen duly obliged - as she always does. Rereading 'Persuasion' was like having a refreshing shower.

I just love her gentle wit and the way she drops in jokes without flagging them up. I probably missed loads of them, but enjoyed this description of the late Lady Elliot - "an excellent woman, sensible and amiable; whose judgment and conduct, if they might be pardoned the youthful infatuation which made her Lady Elliot, had never required indulgence afterwards."
