It may have won the 2008 Booker Prize, but this book was a big disappointment to me.
It's the story of Balram. He's a very bright child, but is taken out of school to work in a teashop. But then he takes the opportunity to become a chauffeur to a rich Delhi businessman, whom, as we're told very early on, he murders. Eventually Balram becomes a rich entrepeneur himself.
It's a very negative view of India, totally devoid of love for anyone. I didn't like it.
