RACHEL LICHTENSTEIN On Brick Lane ***(*)

A delicious mess of a book, without much discernible structure and full of badly taken photographs reproduced terribly!

But it grabs you.

All it consists of really is reports of meetings and conversations with current and former residents of Brick Lane and the surrounding streets about what it's like to live there now and what it was like in the past.

I found it extra interesting because I've filmed round there quite a bit, because the area is the birthplace of The Salvation Army.
