IAN McEWAN On Chesil Beach ***(*)

More a short story than a full-length novel, it's printed in large type, double-spaced on small pages!

Like 'Saturday' the main story is all set on a single day - the disastrous wedding day of Florence and Edward, once they reach their hotel by Chesil Beach. But there are flashbacks and an epilogue.

It's a very bleak story, but beautifully written - especially the opening chapter (as always with Ian McEwan).
