Lots of interesting material, but not as fantastic as the reviews led me to believe it would be.
It's a biography of John Donne, who has always been one of my heroes and whose poetry I love. So the truth, that he tended to go with the prevailing wind and temper his opinions accordingly, was a bit of a let-down.
What really did come across was the precarious political and religious situation through the latter years of Elizabeth, the reign of James I and then Charles.
The other thing that staggered me was the knowledge that John Stubbs, the author, is only 29. Makes you sick!
