An amazing novel about Brian Clough's fateful 44 days in 1974 as manager of Leeds United, a club he absolutely detested.
It consists solely of the near lunatic and frequently contradictory thoughts going round Clough's head.
The conclusion I came to is that what scares successful football managers is that they haven't really got a clue what it is that makes them successful. Some like Clough's predecessor, Don Revie, trust to superstition, Clough himself relied on his kingsize ego.
I lapped it up. It talks about the players I used to watch at Leeds. But I'm not convinced anyone without an interest in football would enjoy it, despite what the reviewers say.
